Citizenship
Citizenship in the United States affords us many rights and priveledges but with those rights and
priveledges come responsibility.
Recently HFA received an article from one of our members that gives some starteling statistics. According to World
Magazine:
40% of seniors at America's top 55 colleges do not know that the document establishing the seperation of powers in
our government is the U.S. Constitution.
69% of voting age Americans think that Karl Marx's principle of "from each according to his ability, to each
according to his needs" either is or might be a quotation from the U.S. Constitution.
And 0% of America's top 55 colleges have an American history requirement.
These statistics are startling. It is our responsiblity to know our heritage, respect our legacy and study our
Freedom Documents.
It is our responsibility as citizens to be informed and take part in the process of electing leaders that are
honest, wise and just.
For as Benjamin Franklin so wisely stated, "A nation of well informed men who have been taught to know and prize
the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. It is in the region of ignorance that tyranny begins.”
President Reagan warned us, "To sit back hoping that someday, someway, someone will make things right is to go on
feeding the crocodile, hoping he will eat you last--but eat you he will."
Never doubt whether or not your activity makes a difference. It assuredly does. President Kennedy said, "One person
can make a difference and every person should try."
The Evergreen Freedom Foundation has put together an amazing program called the 10 Minute Citizen. Even Homemakers
can handle 10 minutes a day. Below is the info on the program and the link to their site. We encourage you to visit
it.
TEN MINUTE CITIZEN
http://www.effwa.org/10min/10minintro.php
What does it mean to be a Ten Minute Citizen? The preservation of liberty depends on citizens deliberately taking
action. We are urging you to invest the equivalent of ten minutes per day, six days a week (one hour per week or
four hours per month), in being an informed and active citizen. Is this too much to invest in citizenship? We hope
you and tens of thousands of others think it is reasonable.

A new legislative session has begun and your involvement is crucial. Our representatives are facing a huge deficit,
and government grows larger by the day. It is up to us to help legislators make tough, responsible decisions. We
can start by becoming informed—then we can take action.
Homemakers for America is hear to guide you through the process of becoming an informed proactive citizen-without
sacrificing your family.
We welcome your comments and questions and will make every effort to answer and address them.
