Social Security
Social Security has become a hot topic recently with the talk of reform. There is much being said for and against the case for
reform.
The Heritage Foundation (a public policy think tank) has done extensive research on this issue. We have addressed some of your
questions below from their research. You can view the data personally at the Heritage Foundation web site

Social Security History and Reform Overview
The Social Security system was created in 1935 and over the decades has helped to protect millions of workers from poverty in their
senior years. But demographic realities have changed over the past 70 years and are still changing. If Social Security doesn’t change
with them, the system that so many depend on today will be unable to meet its promises to tomorrow’s retirees and will burden the next
generations, our children and grandchildren, with backbreaking taxes.
Social Security can be fixed, and it can be strengthened for the next generation. Social Security can be fixed without altering the
benefits of those who rely on it today and of those soon to retire.
